Now that Frank Gore has been ruled out for the rest of the season (hip), the 49ers will hand the ball to veteran Brian Westbrook, who gained 136 yards on Monday in relief of Gore.
Prior to Monday, Westbrook had carried the ball just five times all season. His best game last year was a 64-yard effort in Week 1. In short, it’s been a long time since the 31-year-old Westbrook has mattered.
I suggest fantasy owners show a little faith. Not only is Westbrook in the starting lineup, but he is running for a team that ranks in the top half of the league in yards per carry. The 49ers also face a favorable schedule in the final month of the season.
New life for Westbrook? Why not? The league has already witnessed new life for 30-year-old Mike Vick after his long layoff. Comebacks seem to be in the air.
