Notre Dame G Jerian Grant leaves program

South Bend, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - According to a statement released on Sunday by Fighting Irish guard Jerian Grant, the redshirt junior is no longer enrolled at Notre Dame due to an academic issue and will miss the remainder of the 2013-14 basketball season.

Grant was an integral player for the 8-4 Fighting Irish, leading the club with 19 points and 6.2 assists per game this season. The 6-foot-5 combo guard scored his 1,000th career point in a win over Cornell on Dec. 1.

"It is with regret and sorrow that I inform you that I am no longer enrolled at the University of Notre Dame due to an academic matter that I did not handle properly," said Grant. "I take full responsibility for my lack of judgment and the poor decision that I made."

Grant continued, saying it was his full intention to return to Notre Dame following the 2014 spring semester, earn his degree and finish his college basketball career.

"I understand that there is a process that I must go through in order to come back to school and I will be patient with that process."

Notre Dame will be back on the court for the first time without its star on Dec. 29 against Canisius.
