Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Despite trailing the entire second half, a late-game surge and last-second layup from Willis Hall inched the College of Charleston Cougars past the Charlotte 49ers, 83-82, at TD Arena.

Canyon Barry netted a game-high 26 points for the Cougars (1-1) in his second collegiate game, shooting 11-for-19 from the field. Joe Chealey added 18 points, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Hall racked up a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Pierria Henry led the scoring for the 49ers (1-1) with 21 points, shooting 7- for-12 from the field. Willie Clayton earned a double-double with 19 points and a game-best 13 rebounds. Terrence Williams (16 points), Shawn Lester (14) and Mike Thorne Jr. (10) were the other Charlotte players in double figures.

Four of those Charlotte players were already in double figures at the end of the first half, as the 49ers shot 55 percent. They also took advantage of a 10-of-13 effort from the free throw line to get out to a 49-38 lead at the break.

The 49ers shot only 38.5 percent to the Cougars' 50 percent in the second half and eventually saw the lead they had held during the entire half slip away. With 12 seconds on the clock, Chealey came up with a steal, then buried a 3- pointer to bring the Cougars within one. After being fouled to stop the clock, Henry missed two crucial free throws which could have put the game away. Chealey got the rebound off the second miss and was able to find Hall on the other end for the game-winning layup.

Charleston had a 36-9 edge from beyond the arc in the contest.
