Pocatello, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Tomas Sanchez scored 23 points and hit a critical 3-pointer in the final seconds to lift the Idaho State Bengals to a 73-70 victory over the Northern Colorado Bears in Big Sky Conference action at Holt Arena.
Andre Hatchett netted 19 points and Chris Hansen chipped in 12 for Idaho State (8-12, 5-6 Big Sky), which had lost four of its previous five games.
Derrick Barden tallied 14 points and seven rebounds for Northern Colorado (13-7, 7-4), which has lost four straight. Jordan Wilson added 13 points.
Idaho State shot at a 54.2 percent clip in the first half, but only led 36-34 at halftime. Northern Colorado shot 48.1 percent in the opening stanza.
Neither team led by more than six points in the second half. Tate Unruh nailed a jumper with 38 seconds to play to break a 68-68 tie in favor of Northern Colorado. However, Sanchez drained a 3-pointer and Ayibakuro Preh nailed a pair of free-throws to allow the Bengals to escape.
The game featured as many ties as lead changes (11). Idaho State outscored Northern Colorado 26-12 off of turnovers.
