Huntington, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Thomas scored 17 points and Ryan Taylor logged a double-double as the Marshall Thundering Herd rallied past the East Carolina Pirates, 64-61, in a Conference USA clash at the Cam Henderson Center.
Taylor tallied 15 points, 12 rebounds and five assists for Marshall (10-20, 4-11 C-USA), which ended a three-game losing streak. Kareem Canty added 11 points and six assists and Shawn Smith chipped in 10 points.
Caleb White netted 23 points to pace East Carolina (16-14, 5-10). Akeem Richmond put in 15 points, Antonio Robinson tipped in 10 and Prince Williams cleared 10 boards.
East Carolina owned a 41-30 lead at halftime after shooting 60.9 percent from the floor in the first half. Marshall knocked down only 34.5 percent from the floor in the opening period.
The Pirates plummeted to 28 percent shooting in the second half, which opened up the door for the Herd, who opened up the period on a 16-0 run and shot 40 percent from the floor in the period. However, Marshall was trailing, 61-59 with less than a minute to play when a three-point play from Taylor pushed the Herd ahead. Richmond then missed a 3-pointer on the other end to give the hosts the victory.
Marshall won the battle of the boards, 44-28.
