Huntington, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Thomas scored 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting as the Marshall Thundering Herd coasted to an 80-68 victory over the Florida International Golden Panthers in a Conference USA tilt at the Cam Henderson Center.
Kareem Canty notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists in the win for Marshall (8-14, 2-5 C-USA). Tamron Manning came off the bench to score 15 points, and Ryan Taylor chipped in 14 with five rebounds. Marshall has won two of its last three games.
Tymell Murphy scored a game-high 29 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Panthers (11-10, 3-3). Dennis Mavin netted 12 points and Cody Mann narrowly missed out on a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. The loss snapped a two-game win streak for FIU.
Marshall connected on 41.4 percent of its shots from the floor in the first half, and went into the locker room tied 34-34 with FIU after 20 minutes of play. FIU shot an even 50 percent from the field in the first frame.
The Herd dominated the second half, netting 60.7 percent of their shots to FUI's 40.6 percent from the floor. The Panthers went 2-of-14 from 3-point range in the period.
Marshall had the advantage in bench points, 21-8, and from the free-throw line, 16-8, in the contest.
