Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Cullen Neal dropped in 24 points as the New Mexico Lobos took down the Marquette Golden Eagles, 75-68, as part of the MGM Grand Showcase at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
For the Lobos (8-3), Cameron Bairstow added a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Kendall Williams finished with 14 points and Deshawn Delaney chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Jake Thomas led the Golden Eagles (7-5) with 17 points, while Jamil Wilson scored 15 and Todd Mayo finished with 10.
The Lobos scored the first seven points of the contest but the Golden Eagles battled back and went into halftime with a 37-30 advantage. Marquette connected on 58.3 percent of its shots in the half, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. New Mexico shot 37.9 percent with a 4-of-12 effort from 3- point range in the opening period.
After the break, the Lobos were the team with the shooting touch, draining 50 percent of their field goal tries, including 5-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles struggled in the second half, hitting on only 36.4 percent from the field and 2-of-9 from 3-point distance. Trailing 60-57 with just under seven minutes to play, New Mexico used a 13-2 run to take control of the contest, holding the Golden Eagles to just eight points over the final 6:43, as the Lobos pulled out the comeback victory.
New Mexico doubled-up Marquette at the free-throw line, outscoring them 18-9 at the charity stripe. The Golden Eagles did have the advantage in points in the paint, 30-22.
