Lewiston, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Rob Poole posted 21 points and eight rebounds as the Siena Saints captured an 84-71 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Gallagher Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Saints (3-7, 1-0 MAAC) before fouling out were Lavon Long and Evan Hymes with 14 points apiece, while Brett Bisping pitched in with 10 points before he too picked up his fifth personal foul as the team snapped a four-game slide. Marquis Wright shot just 1-of-6 from the field and finished with six points, but was still valuable with his career- high 10 assists.
The Purple Eagles (1-8, 0-1), losers of seven in a row, were paced by Antoine Mason with 18 points, Rayvon Harris 15 and Ramone Snowden 11 points and seven rebounds for the hosts.
Niagara shot a mere 37.0 percent from the floor in the first half, missing all five chances behind the 3-point line, while at the same time the Saints were knocking down an impressive 61.3 percent from the field in order to claim a 47-35 advantage at the break.
In the second half Siena dropped to 42.9 percent accuracy from the floor, but made up for it by outscoring the hosts at the free-throw line in the period, 18-8, en route to the 13-point win.
Siena turned the ball over 17 times on the night, but the squad never trailed as it held Niagara to 0-of-13 shooting out on the perimeter.
