Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Scott Eatherton scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Northeastern Huskies took down the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, 79-68, in overtime in Colonial Athletic Association play at Matthews Arena.
Reggie Spencer also recorded a double-double for Northeastern (4-11, 1-0 CAA), scoring 10 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. David Walker netted 18 points while Demetrius Pollard contributed 17 in the win.
Chris Dixon scored 15 points on 5-of-15 shooting to pace the Seahawks (6-11, 0-2). Freddie Jackson added 13 points before fouling out, while Cedrick Williams chipped in 11.
Northeastern shot 32 percent in the first half, but still managed to lead the Seahawks 25-19 at the midway point. UNCW shot a dismal 28.6 percent in the first half, including 0-for-3 from 3-point range.
The Huskies recovered in the second half to shoot 45.8 percent from the floor, including 5-of-11 from 3-point range. The Seahawks exploded in the period, converting 55 percent and coming back to force overtime.
Northeastern connected on 4-of-5 from floor in the extra period, compared to UNCW's 4-of-13. The Huskies won the battle at the free-throw line in the extra session, 13-1.
Northeastern outscored the Seahawks at the free-throw line 26-10 and held the edge in points off turnovers, 19-10.
