Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Sean Obi registered a double-double with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting and 13 rebounds as the Rice Owls beat the North Texas Mean Green, 75-70, in a close Conference USA matchup at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Marcus Jackson logged 13 points and seven assists for the Owls (7-15, 2-7 C- USA), who snapped a two-game slide. Austin Ramljak and Keith Washington each scored in double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively, while Seth Gearhart had five steals.
Alzee Williams scored 18 points for the Mean Green (11-11, 2-6), as they extended their losing streak to three games. Chris Jones tallied 12 points and six assists, and Colin Voss finished with a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
Rice made 50 percent of its shots from the field in the first period of play, and led 37-31 at the half. North Texas shot 40 percent on its field goal attempts, and turned the ball over 10 times.
The Owls connected on 42.9 percent of their shots from the floor as they controlled the second stanza. The Mean Green got within three points with 2:51 left, but Rice went on a 7-2 run to create room and hold off North Texas.
Despite the loss, North Texas held a 40-33 rebounding advantage. Rice won the battle at the free-throw line, 27-12.
