Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Victor Rudd scored 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting as the South Florida Bulls defeated the SMU Mustangs, 78-71, in American Athletic Conference action at the USF Sun Dome.
Chris Perry and Corey Allen Jr. each netted 18 points, while Perry grabbed eight rebounds for South Florida (11-10, 2-6 AAC). Allen dished out a team- best five assists in the win. The victory snaps a four-game Bulls losing streak.
Nic Moore led all scorers in the game with 23 points for SMU (16-5, 5-3). Markus Kennedy and Ben Moore each added 11 points in the loss, while Kennedy grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. Nick Russell chipped in 10 points for the Mustangs, who end a five-game winning streak with the loss.
South Florida connected on 50 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half, but missed all four of its 3-point tries, and took a slight 30-29 lead into the half. SMU hit 42.3 percent of its shots in the first frame.
Both teams shot at least 56 percent in the second period, as USF hit an even 56 percent and SMU connected on 56.5 percent from the field. The Bulls went 17-of-21 from the free-throw line in the half.
The Bulls had the edge in points in the paint, 38-28, and in fast break points, 14-2.
