Mobile, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Neil Watson and Daveon Boardingham scored 15 points apiece as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles downed the Houston Baptist Huskies, 67-62, in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic at the Mitchell Center.
Matt Bingaya gave the Golden Eagles (5-0) a spark off the bench with nine points in 15 minutes. Michael Craig submitted a solid effort to contribute eight points and eight rebounds.
Rob Lewis paced Houston Baptist (1-4) with 15 points. Duason Womack added 12 points and Ricmonds Vilde grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Huskies took a 32-27 lead into the intermission after they hit on 40 percent of their field goal tries and converted 9-of-12 attempts at the charity stripe in the first stanza. USM missed all seven of its shots from 3- point range in the opening 20 minutes.
The Golden Eagles heated up to knock down 42.3 percent of their shots from the floor including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc after halftime. Houston Baptist led its lead slip away as it committed 10 turnovers in the second half which turned into 13 points for USM.
The Golden Eagles outscored the Huskies, 28-16, in the paint and also tallied 16 second chance points.
