Towson, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Paced by Jerrelle Benimon's 25 points, 18 rebounds and five assists, the Towson Tigers downed the Delaware Blue Hens, 78-63, in a Colonial Athletic Association bout at SECU Arena.
Benimon shot 9-of-15 from the field for Towson (18-9, 9-3 CAA), which has won six of seven. Mike Burwell scored 17 points, Rafriel Guthrie netted 15 and Timajh Parker-Rivera tallied 11 points and nine boards.
Davon Usher poured in 24 points as Delaware (19-8, 11-1) saw its winning streak come to an end at 13 games, tied for the second longest in school history. Devon Saddler contributed 18 points, while Carl Baptiste logged a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Towson shot 42.1 percent from the field in the opening stanza, which included a 5-of-11 showing from 3-point range, as it took a 41-34 lead into halftime. Delaware struggled in the opening 20 minutes, making just 35.7 percent of its tries from the floor.
The Blue Hens actually regressed in the second half, shooting a lowly 28.1 percent from the field. The Tigers used a 10-0 run late in the frame to pull away.
Towson won the rebounding battle, 50-38, and outscored Delaware in the paint, 38-22.
