San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Max Jacobsen and Aaseem Dixon scored 17 points apiece to lead the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks over the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, 74-63, in the season opener at the Convocation Center.
Quinton Upshur added 15 points, three steals and two blocks for NAU (1-0), while Kris Yanku came off the bench to tally 12 points. Gaellan Bewernick scored just five points but ripped down 11 rebounds and handed out four assists.
For UTSA (0-1), Hyjii Thomas matched the game-high with 17 points, doing most of his damage from the foul line (9-of-11). Keon Lewis had a strong showing off the bench, shooting 6-of-7 from the field for 15 points.
NAU shot just 36 percent from the field in the first half, but UTSA was even worse at 25 percent, as the Lumberjacks went into intermission with a 25-21 lead.
The Roadrunners brought their deficit to as little as three midway through the second half, but NAU ripped off a 20-4 run to put the game out of reach.
Neither team shot well from 3-point range. NAU was just 6-of-25 from long distance, while only UTSA was 2-of-14 from beyond the arc.
