Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Deonte Burton delivered a game-high 29 points to lead the Nevada Wolf Pack to a 74-71 win over the UNLV Runnin' Rebels in Mountain West Conference action at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Burton connected on 12-of-20 from the floor for the Wolf Pack (8-8, 3-0 MWC), followed by Michael Perez and AJ West with 18 and 11 points, respectively, the latter also pulling down nine rebounds and registering five blocked shots as the team won for the fourth time in the last five outings.
UNLV (10-6, 1-2) was led by Roscoe Smith who posted a double-double consisting of 13 points and 15 rebounds in the team's second consecutive setback. Bryce Dejean-Jones notched a team-best 15 points on just 4-of-14 shooting from the field, followed by Khem Birch and Christian Wood with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Runnin' Rebels led by as many as 11 points in the first half, but the team ended up shooting only 1-of-6 behind the 3-point line in the period, leaving them with a 36-34 edge at the break. UNLV's defense held the visitors to a mere 1-of-9 on the perimeter through the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half the hosts completely fell apart, shooting a dismal 29.4 percent from the floor and 2-of-9 beyond the arc, allowing Nevada to pull ahead and claim the win.
For Nevada, which turned the ball over just six times on the night, it was the team's first win at UNLV since 2005.
