Recap: William & Mary vs. Drexel

Williamsburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Thornton led the way with 18 points as the William & Mary Tribe downed the Drexel Dragons, 85-73, in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both squads at Kaplan Arena.

For the Tribe (9-5, 1-0 CAA), Omar Prewitt and Brandon Britt each added 15 points. Kyle Gaillard scored 14 and Terry Tarpey pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with nine points.

Frantz Massenat led the Dragons (8-6, 0-1) with 19 points while Chris Fouch and Tavon Allen each finished with 18.

William & Mary started the game strong, knocking down 60 percent of its field goals and 8-of-13 from 3-point range in the first half, as the Tribe took a 46-30 lead into the break. Drexel shot 41.9 percent from the floor and missed all but one of its eight 3-point attempts in the half.

After the break, the Tribe hit just 35.3 percent of their shots but outscored the Dragons 24-13 at the free-throw line. The visitors improved their field goal accuracy to 46.7 percent but made just 2-of-10 from 3-point range. Drexel could get no closer than seven points in the second half, as William & Mary won for the third straight time.

The Tribe had the advantage from outside, outscoring the Dragons 33-9 from 3- point distance. Drexel dominated down low, finishing with a 40-26 advantage in points in the paint.
