QB Golson readmitted to Notre Dame

South Bend, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Quarterback Everett Golson has been readmitted to Notre Dame seven months after he left school and was suspended for the fall semester.

The university said Golson was readmitted Friday afternoon, almost a month after Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly disclosed that the quarterback had reapplied.

Golson helped lead the Irish to an undefeated regular season last year and a berth in the BCS National Championship game against Alabama. The school was mum on the reason he was suspended, but Golson implied in an interview with Sports Illustrated that it was because he "had poor judgement on a test" and not because of his grades.

Asked if he cheated on a test, Golson replied: "Something like that."

He passed for 2,405 yards and 12 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman last season and rushed for 298 yards and another six scores.

Notre Dame (8-4) will play Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 28 at Yankee Stadium. Kelly said Sunday that Golson won't practice with the team ahead of the game after saying last month that he would as long as he was readmitted.

Senior Tommy Rees has started all 12 games at quarterback this season.
