New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tulane Green Wave was able to defeat Conference USA rival Tulsa Golden Hurricanes 14-7 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, thanks to Devin Powell's two passing scores.
The Green Wave (6-2, 4-0 C-USA) was able to keep their winning ways going Saturday. Powell had 164 yards on 17-of-29 passing but was also intercepted twice. Orleans Darkwa led the team in rushing with 66 yards on 13 attempts. Ryan Grant led all receivers with 89 yards and a touchdown on 7 receptions.
The Golden Hurricane (2-5, 1-2) was unable to continue the momentum from its win last week. Dane Evans had 139 passing yards and was 13-of-30 through the air with three interceptions. Ja'Terian Douglas led the team in rushing with 79 yards on 17 rushes. Keevan Lucas had 63 yards on five catches. Trey Watts came into the weekend averaging a conference leading 94.2 yards a game on the ground but was unable to match that total with just 63 yards on 21 carries.
A one-yard touchdown rush from Watts would get the scoring started for Tulsa.
Tulane would tie the game up with 42 seconds left in the second quarter as Powell connected with Justyn Shackleford on a 19-yard touchdown pass.
The winning score came on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Powell to Grant midway through the third quarter as neither team managed to put up any more points the rest of the way.
This win was Tulane's fourth-straight and pushes it to bowl eligibility.
