Austin, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Malcolm Brown rushed for two touchdowns as the Texas Longhorns claimed a 38-7 win over North Texas at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in the first game under head coach Charlie Strong.
Strong, formerly of Louisville, was making his head coaching debut for Texas (1-0). David Ash threw for 190 yards and a touchdown on 19-of-34 passing and John Harris turned seven receptions into 110 yards and a score.
North Texas (0-1) finished with only 94 yards of total offense.
Brown's one-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter pushed Texas ahead, 7-0. He was at it again in the beginning of the second quarter, scoring from three yards out.
Ash got a chance to score on the ground later in the quarter, finishing off a 53-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run.
The Longhorns' signal caller was responsible for another touchdown, this time the result of an eight-yard pass to Harris, early on in the second half.
The Mean Green got their only points of the game when James Jones recovered a fumble in the end zone during the fourth quarter.
Texas piled on to their lead late in the period with a 34-yard field goal from Nick Rose and a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown by Demarco Cobbs.
Texas did not allow a single North Texas drive to reach the red zone.
