The Cougars have a great logo and a solid helmet. But the rest of the get-up is sorely lacking. These are busy and plain all at the same time (not sure how that is possible), and it has a distinctive mid-major feel to it.
The Utes upgraded their plain-looking digs a few years ago, adding accents to the shoulder pads. The all red-on-red combination is just too much red with the matching red helmet. This team has an excellent color scheme and has plenty of potential with just a few more stylish touches. That said, the ones shown here — white on red — are already pretty smooth looking despite the lingering hint of Mountain West football.
The Beavers are looking to totally overhaul their look in 2013 and this is what they came up with. The new triple-stripe helmet looks great in white and black, but is horrendous in the metallic orange. The white road get-up is very clean and cool looking while the all-black look has some swag to it as well. But here's hoping those all-orange outfits never leave the closet. The new logo is a big upgrade from the last few.
The new logo is awesome. And the black matte helmets look pretty solid. But the influx of black overall isn't very appealing. The grey trim also takes away from the school's primary color scheme. Yes, this is more of an alternate uniform but do fans really want to see Oregon-style uniform changes taking place in the desert? The guess is no.
The introduction of the copper color is a bizarre twist and not many fans have approved. The traditional "A" logo is excellent and the simple styling of the blue and white combination is strong. The hints of red complete the picture — until there is too much red and then things go haywire.
Cal didn't make sweeping changes to its get-up with the new round of upgrades but the ones made were solid. There is less going on with these new digs than the old ones — which is good. And the new logo is a huge upgrade on the old state flag bear. The whites and blues pictured here are really nice and the jury is still very much out on the all-gray uniform — which is high risk, high reward. But the all-yellow attire has always and will always look terrible.
The Cardinal offer one of the simplest uniforms in the nation and they get the job done. The standard "S" logo is traditional and the color scheme is solid — without being too busy like other red and white teams in the league. There are no frills anywhere and the all-white road digs are as smooth as historical favorites from Texas, Penn State, Alabama or Tennessee.
This uniform is very underrated. The black and gold is a great combination and makes this team very unique in the Pac-12, as no other team has a similar pattern. The black pants are awesome looking and the trim on the shoulders isn't audacious. Now, if only the football team could win some games.
It's impossible to rank Oregon. Here is a shot of their 2011 wardrobe produced by OregonLive.com. Some are awesome and extremely stylish: ones worn vs. Missouri State, Arizona, Colorado, Stanford and Wisconsin. Some are too much and way over the top: LSU, Nevada, Arizona State, USC and Washington State. And some aren't bad or good: Washington, Cal, Oregon State or UCLA. When they are good, few teams look as smooth and edgy as the Ducks. But when NIKE misses, it misses big.
Washington's purple and gold has long been a fan favorite from across the nation. And after the small tweaks and upgrades a few years ago, these have become some of the smoothest digs around. The purple pants and white tops are downright amazing while the traditional purple tops and gold pants are still some of the league's most stylish. The key was the Huskies didn't add too many frills when they updated the look.
It doesn't get much more traditional and stylish all at once than the USC Trojans. These uniforms have figured out a way to be edgy and fresh as well as classic and clean all at the same time. No easy feat. The road whites look just as good. No one has ever looked bad in a Trojans uniform.
The "UCLA" script on the helmet may be a bit out of date, but the baby blue and gold combination is simply the best. Comparable to the San Diego Chargers' powder blues, UCLA brings one of the single greatest color combinations to athletics. The simple pants and simple shoulder stripes will never need to be updated, as the clean, classic look will never go out of style.
