Although Questionable, Graham should be on the field today against the Jets

Week 9 Injury Updates: Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Jeff Cumberland, Jermichael Finley

Yet again, Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski both appear on the injury report. Is either in danger of not playing in Week 9?

Jimmy Graham, TE, New Orleans Saints at New York Jets
Graham is dealing with plantar fasciitis, which is a painful issue that probably won’t be completely healed until after the season. The good news is that as long as it doesn’t get worse and he can manage the pain, Graham should be able to keep playing. That was the case last week, when even though he was a game-time decision, he suited up against the Bills. Graham is listed as Questionable this week, but he was able to practice, albeit in a limited capacity, and is fully expected to play. Graham is one of the few players who can have a big impact even with limited snaps, such as last week when he caught all three of his targets for 37 yards and two touchdowns. The 1 p.m. ET kickoff should provide you the luxury of just making sure Graham is in the Saints’ lineup, as he should definitely be in yours.

Rob Gronkowski, TE, New England Patriots vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Gronkowski will probably stay on the injury report for the rest of this season, but as long as he’s listed as Probable, there’s really nothing to worry about. What his owners should be concerned with, however, is the two catches for just 27 yards he totaled last week against Miami. Pittsburgh is allowing the second-fewest fantasy points to tight ends this season, so it could be another slow day at the office for Gronk.

Don’t Forget…

Jeff Cumberland, TE, New York Jets – Cumberland sustained a concussion last week against the Bengals and as of Saturday night, had yet to be cleared to return to the field. So even though he practiced on a limited basis on Friday and is Questionable on the injury report, I would not count on Cumberland playing today.

Jermichael Finley, TE, Green Bay Packers – Finley is out indefinitely with a spinal contusion and unless you can afford the roster spot, he probably shouldn’t be owned in any league. His possible return to the football field is secondary to his health at this point. Andrew Quarless will replace Finley as the Packers’ starting tight end, but he is nothing more than a wait-and-see option for now.
