Orioles' Machado has sprained knee ligament

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado has a sprained ligament in his right knee.

Machado's injury was diagnosed following an MRI on Tuesday, according to MLB.com.

He was hurt in the third inning of Monday night's game against the Yankees on a broken-bat swing.

Machado collapsed at the plate and clutched his right knee after hitting a grounder to shortstop and needed help getting off the field, but Orioles manager Buck Showalter said after the game that things were "a lot more positive than the way it looked."

"There's a chance we dodged a bullet," Showalter said after the game.

Machado was an All-Star last year but missed the last week of the season after tearing a ligament in his left knee. He made his season debut this year on May 1.

First baseman Chris Davis entered the game to play third for the Orioles and hit a go-ahead homer in the 11-3 win. Tuesday's game was rained out.
