San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Diego Padres placed starting pitcher Andrew Cashner on the 15-day disabled list Monday with right shoulder soreness.
On Sunday, Cashner was scratched from his scheduled Monday start. The move is retroactive to June 21. He also spent time on the DL earlier in May with right elbow soreness.
The 27-year-old right-hander has compiled a 2-6 record with a 2.36 ERA this season in 12 starts for the Padres.
San Diego selected right-handed pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne to start Monday.
Despaigne, who will be making his MLB debut, was signed as a minor league free agent on May 2 and started seven games between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso, compiling a 1-3 record with a 6.03 ERA.
The Padres also transferred pitcher Casey Kelly to the 60-day disabled list.
