Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Joey Terdoslavich picked the right time to hit his first career home run.

A pinch-hitting Terdoslavich blasted a fastball off Joaquin Benoit in the bottom of the eighth into the seats in right center to help the Atlanta Braves to a 6-5 win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.

Jason Grilli, who blew his second save of the season in Monday's loss to the Padres, hurled a scoreless ninth in this one for his 16th save.

The Braves had dropped five of six, with the win snapping a two-game skid.

Jim Johnson (2-3) earned the win in relief of starter Mike Foltynewicz.

"Our bullpen did a nice job," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said of the 3 1/3 scoreless innings from his relievers.

Benoit (4-3) was given the loss for San Diego, which had won five of six coming in.

Will Venable went 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored in the setback.

San Diego scored five runs over the first six innings, then Atlanta tied it with a five-run sixth.

After RBI doubles from Venable and Derek Norris put San Diego up 5-0, Jace Peterson began the home sixth with a double and he moved to third on Freddie Freeman's single two batters later. Peterson scored on Cory Spangenberg's error at second that allowed Nick Markakis to reach first. Juan Uribe walked to load the bases before Simmons sent a double into left that cleared them, and Jonny Gomes tied the game with an RBI knock.

Simmons flied out to right with the bases loaded to end the seventh inning, and Melvin Upton Jr. was thrown out at the plate in the eighth on a fielder's choice out off the bat of Norris.

Clint Barmes opened the scoring with a double that plated Spangenberg in the second. Venable homered to right to begin the third, then Yonder Alonso's single scored Norris in the fifth for a 3-0 edge.
