Birmingham Iron Roster (AAF Football)

The state of Alabama's rich football tradition is alive and well with the AAF team

Alabama's football roots run deep so it's only fitting that the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) call historic Legion Field home. The venue's history goes back to 1927 and is Alabama's oldest football stadium. Now, it's where the Iron will play their home games in the AAF's inaugural season.

But the Iron's Alabama ties don't end there. More than a third of the 53-man roster is made up of players that played their college ball in the state, including for the Crimson Tide, Auburn, Troy, Samford, and Tuskegee. The most well-known of the bunch is probably former Alabama running back Trent Richardson. He is one of 10 former Crimson Tide players on head coach Tim Lewis' roster. Lewis himself is a former NFL player with more than 20 years of coaching experience in the pros, including seven as a defensive coordinator for both the Steelers (2000-03) and Giants (2004-06).
