Through four weeks of the 2022 NFL season, underdogs continue to be a solid investment posting a 36-25-2 (59.0 percent) against the spread (ATS) record. To the disappointment of fantasy managers, unders have led the way on game totals with a 37-26-1 (58.7 percent) mark.
Sharp bettors in Vegas continue to heavily invest in NFL teaser wagers, looking to move the game spreads in their favor. In Week 5 we will target two home teams and one road team, moving the odds away from several prime football betting numbers.
In this type of investment, bettors are afforded the opportunity to use several (two or more) teams combined into one “exotic bet”, shifting the line in your favor. There are three main NFL teaser offerings readily available at every sportsbook: 6, 6.5 and 7 points. The more points you use on the teaser the lower the payout will be, however the more teams you include in the teaser bet the higher the payout will be.
Last week, we nailed our Exotic wager at odds of +130 when the Ravens, Cowboys and Packers all came through.
Let’s look to go back-to-back in Week 5 with three teams who look to be hitting their stride!
SAN FRANCISCO ‘PK
In the first leg of our 7-point teaser investment, we will target Deebo Samuel and the 49ers heading into Carolina to take on the Panthers. The 49ers' defense was dominant on Monday night, sacking Matthew Stafford seven times while also returning an interception for a game-changing touchdown. San Francisco, who is 9-4 ATS over their last 13 games, will face a Matt Rhule-led Panthers squad that is an abysmal 1-10 SU over their 11 games. Instead of needing to win by a touchdown in our investment, all the 49ers have to do is just win.
Jacksonville, who appears poised to end an eight-game losing streak to the Texans, is being placed in a rare role by oddsmakers. The last time oddsmakers made the Jaguars at least a touchdown favorite occurred in Week 8 of the 2019 season. Instead of needing to win by more than a touchdown with the 7-point spread, the middle leg of this ticket will now become a money line investment.
TAMPA BAY -2.5
The final leg of our teaser will focus on Tom Brady and a Buccaneers offense that is finally starting to get healthy. Brady, who is 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS against Atlanta since joining Tampa Bay, will now face a Falcons club that is the lone 4-0 ATS club this season. Over the last 10 meetings, the over is 8-2 between these two NFC South rivals, so expect points in this matchup.
Instead of needing to win the game by 10 points in order to cash, we are afforded the benefit of making the Bucs just 2.5-point home favorites.
