The 2019 college football season officially begins on Saturday, Aug. 24, but it's never too early to start thinking about what might transpire this fall. Each FBS season brings plenty of surprises, disappointments and unexpected teams emerging in the national title picture. However, two teams - Clemson and Alabama - are a step ahead of the rest of the college football world and are poised for a rematch in the national championship game.

Whether it was head coaches, coordinators or position coaches, college football's coaching carousel was especially active this offseason. In addition to the 27 changes among head coaches, there were numerous and important hires for coordinators. Oklahoma's Alex Grinch takes the top spot as the No. 1 coordinator hire for 2019, followed by three offensive play-callers in Ole Miss' Rich Rodriguez, Florida State's Kendal Briles, and Miami's Dan Enos. Of the top 10 hires by Athlon Sports, seven were on the offensive side of things.

The pecking order among college football conferences going into the 2019 season is fairly stable. As expected (and once again), the SEC ranks as college football’s No. 1 conference. Alabama is Athlon's pick to win the 2019 national championship, with Georgia checking in at No. 3 and Florida, LSU and Texas A&M projected to finish inside of the top 10. The Big Ten ranks second and is led by two playoff contenders (Michigan and Ohio State) and a solid middle class (Iowa, Penn State, Wisconsin and Nebraska).

College football's 2019 season is less than 50 days away, but it’s never too early to make projections and predictions on how the bowl games and playoff pairings may look by the time the CFB Playoff selection committee meets in December. However, defining underrated players is no easy assignment, as that term varies in meaning between fans and experts.

The 2019 college football season returns a deep group of running backs, including Wisconsin's Jonathan Taylor and Clemson's Travis Etienne. Taylor and Etienne take the top spot in running back rankings for the upcoming year, with Arizona State's Eno Benjamin and Boston College's AJ Dillon next in line. Alabama's Najee Harris is primed for a breakout year and ranks just outside of the top five going into the season.

College football's 2019 season officially begins on Aug. 24, but it's never too early to project where all 130 teams will finish at the end of the year. Athlon Sports released its top 25 in May and now it's time to project the rest of the teams 26-130. Alabama and Clemson lead the way in the overall rankings, followed by Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and Oklahoma. There are plenty of solid teams just outside of the top 25, including Virginia Tech, Miami, Washington State, South Carolina and Cincinnati.

That is even more true at the Group of 5 level, where talent levels across the board aren't quite as even as their Power 5 peers but something that can be neutralized with an incredible signal-caller making big plays.

However, as Athlon Sports has done for each of the last eight years leading up to the start of the upcoming season, we set out to sort out every FBS head coach from No. 1 to the bottom. And for the eighth straight year, Alabama's Nick Saban takes the top spot. Clemson's Dabo Swinney jumps to No. 2 with Ohio State's Urban Meyer retiring, while Washington's Chris Petersen checks in at No. 3 and Texas A&M's Jimbo Fisher at No. 4.
