The early-entry deadline for the 2021 NFL Draft officially passed on Monday, Jan. 18. Counting seniors who passed on an extra year of eligibility and underclassmen entering early, more than 400 players declared for the next level. Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, Clemson signal-caller Trevor Lawrence, Alabama receiver Jaylen Waddle, Florida tight end Kyle Pitts and BYU quarterback Zach Wilson are just a few of the names headed to the NFL.

The Heisman Trophy will be presented on Tuesday, Jan. 5 to one of four finalists for the 2020 college football season. Florida quarterback Kyle Trask, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith and Alabama quarterback Mac Jones are up for the most prestigious award in college football. Due to COVID-19 and the timing of the announcement, the award will be presented virtually instead of the four finalists gathering in New York. The voting for the Heisman Trophy was compiled prior to the bowl games for all four finalists.

The 2021 NFL Draft is slated to take place in Cleveland, Ohio on April 29-May 1, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, college football players are already declaring their intent to jump early to the next level. As of Friday, Dec. 18, 136 underclassmen players have already declared for the 2021 NFL Draft and some will not return to college for a fall or spring season. The list of names declared features projected first-round picks in Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons, Miami defensive end Gregory Rousseau and Minnesota receiver Rashod Bateman.
