College Football 2019 Conference Power Rankings

The pecking order among college football conferences going into the 2019 season is fairly stable. As expected (and once again), the SEC ranks as college football’s No. 1 conference. Alabama is Athlon's pick to win the 2019 national championship, with Georgia checking in at No. 3 and Florida, LSU and Texas A&M projected to finish inside of the top 10. The Big Ten ranks second and is led by two playoff contenders (Michigan and Ohio State) and a solid middle class (Iowa, Penn State, Wisconsin and Nebraska).

Examining the Over/Under 2019 Win Totals for the Pac-12

Could it be another down year for the Pac-12?
Examining the Over/Under 2019 Win Totals for the Pac-12

Last year, the Pac-12 went 3-4 in the postseason in what was considered to be another underwhelming year for the conference. I know some will disagree, but the Pac-12 really needs USC to become relevant and keeping Clay Helton as head coach may not get the Trojans there. They could have been in good shape when they hired Kliff Kingsbury to be the offensive coordinator, but he jumped to the pros to coach the Arizona Cardinals.

Non-conference scheduling is one of the more contentious topics in a sport that feeds on contentious topics. The College Football Playoff has yet to establish a clear guideline when navigating the non-conference terrain, so scheduling continues to wildly fluctuate among the Power 5 conference programs.

Meanwhile, Group of 5 conference teams sometimes load up on high-profile dates — as much a testament to the game's economic disparities than trying to prove any playoff point.
