There was a time when Robert Griffin III’s future in Washington seemed limitless. In fact, some said he represented the future of the NFL. Like Michael Vick was supposed to be a decade or so earlier, RGIII was to become a new-age quarterback/weapon. The first quarterback who could be truly as dangerous throwing as he was on the run.
The NFL Scouting Combine (Feb. 22-25) is crossing the finish line on another so-called “Underwear Olympics.” The Combine is just one step in the job interview process leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft (May 8-10). But make no mistake, millions of dollars are on the line during the 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical leap, broad jump, cone drills, Wonderlic test and BOD Pod tests.
Not so long ago, Robert Griffin III and Mike Shanahan were taking the Washington Redskins to the playoffs and the biggest Scandal in D.C. was an ABC prime time drama starring Kerry Washington.
Times have changed in the nation’s capital. Some are calling for an emergency midterm election — i.e. the Redskins’ first midseason coaching change since Norv Turner was fired by owner Daniel Snyder after 13 games in 2000. To be fair, Turner had been hired by the late, great Jack Kent Cooke in 1994 and was never Snyder’s “guy.”
