Iowa State Cyclones vs. Purdue Boilermakers: NCAA Tournament Second Round Preview and Prediction

Iowa State and Purdue both held off their pesky opponents on Thursday, knocking off Nevada and Vermont respectively. It's somewhat a clash of styles with the size of the Boilermakers vs. the quickness of the Cyclones. Both teams have plenty of scorers and could make some noise in the Sweet 16 should they get there.

Midwest Region: No. 5 Iowa State Cyclones (24-10) vs. No. 4 Purdue Boilermakers (26-7)

When: 9:40 p.m. ET (Saturday)

Where: BMO Harris Bradley Center (Milwaukee)

Line: Purdue -1

Keys for Iowa State

Keep Monte Morris out of foul trouble. He's the leading scorer and rebounder on the season for ISU. Likewise, they Cyclones have to attack Isaac Haas and Caleb Swanigan so they get in foul trouble because this is where Purdue's advantage lies.

Keys for Purdue

Use your size to your advantage and wear out the interior of ISU. Continue to feed the post and see what the Cyclones do to stop you. If they start doubling, then others have to hit shots. Get Dakota Mathias going too. He's dangerous, but he's also been hot and cold lately.

Final Analysis

The line tells me that this will be a close game between two evenly matched squads. I lean to the Big Ten team in this one as I just don't know if Iowa State can stop Caleb Swanigan on the inside. Darrell Bowie and Solomon Young will be busy on the inside trying to keep Purdue’s dynamic sophomore big man in check.

Prediction: Purdue 75, Iowa State 71
