Akron, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Pat Forsythe tallied a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Akron Zips to a non-conference 70-63 win over the Marshall Thundering Herd at James A. Rhodes Arena.
Noah Robotham added 13 points of his own for Akron (8-4), which has won two games in a row. Reggie McAdams came off the bench to contribute 12 points, and Deji Ibitayo added 11 with five rebounds in the win.
Austin Loop netted 16 points to pace Marshall (4-9), while Ryan Taylor chipped in with 15 points in the loss. The Herd have dropped nine of their last 10 games played.
Akron only connected on 36.1 percent of its shots in the first half, but was still able to take a 35-24 lead into the intermission after Marshall hit on 30.8 percent from the floor.
The Thundering Herd made 55.6 percent of their field goal attempts in the second half, including 7-of-13 from 3-point range, and were able to slice four points of the Zips' first-half advantage. But Akron made 35.7 percent from the field in the period to maintain a lead for the win.
Akron held a 42-32 advantage in rebounding, which led to a 20-5 edge in second-chance scoring in the win.
