Auburn, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Levi Randolph led the way with 19 points and seven rebounds as the Alabama Crimson Tide downed the Auburn Tigers, 79-68, in an SEC showdown at Auburn Arena.
For the Crimson Tide (16-10, 6-7 SEC), Retin Obasohan added 16 points, Rodney Cooper finished with 13 points and Shannon Hale chipped in with 11 points.
Antoine Mason led all scorers with 24 points to pace the Tigers (12-14, 4-9), while KT Harrell finished with 21 points and Cinmeon Bowers scored 14 points with seven rebounds.
The Tigers took a slim, 36-33, lead into intermission, finishing the half on an 11-4 run. They shot just 35.7 percent from the field in the first half, including 5-of-13 from 3-point distance. The Crimson Tide trailed despite hitting on 45.8 percent of their shots from the field in the opening stanza, including 5-of-12 from beyond the arc.
Alabama greatly improved its shooting after the break, hitting on 59.3 percent of its shots from the field, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. Auburn improved to 42.9 percent shooting from the field in the second half, including 3-of-9 from 3-point range. The Tigers got to within one, 54-53. midway through the second period, but the Crimson Tide responded with a 7-0 run and then pulled away down the stretch to secure the victory.
Alabama outscored Auburn in the paint, 32-22. The Crimson Tide also dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Tigers, 40-26.
