Waco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Cory Jefferson logged 25 points and 13 rebounds, as the Baylor Bears held off the Oklahoma State Cowboys in overtime, 70-64, in a Big 12 Conference showdown at the Ferrell Center.
Jefferson shot 8-of-12 from the field and 8-of-11 at the free-throw line for Baylor (17-9, 5-8 Big 12), winners of three straight. Isaiah Austin also tallied a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards, while Kenny Chery added 10 points for the hosts.
For Oklahoma State (16-10, 4-9), which extended its losing streak to seven games, Markel Brown led all scorers with 26 points while also dishing out six assists. Phil Forte poured in 20 points but on just 5-of-17 from the field.
Oklahoma State opened up a 33-28 halftime lead after shooting 47.8 percent from the field in the first half, compared to a lowly 29 percent showing from Baylor.
The Cowboys extended their lead to as many as 10 early in the second stanza before the Bears charged all the way back to take a one-point lead, 56-55, with under three minutes to play following a Jefferson dunk. Baylor's advantage was three in final seconds when it turned the ball over on an inbound play, which led to a game-tying 3-pointer from Leyton Hammonds at the buzzer to force overtime.
Baylor made up for its miscue in the extra session, scoring the first points of the period and never looking back from there. With Baylor leading by two in the final minute, Chery put the game on ice with a layup to go up by two possessions, effectively sealing the victory.
Neither team shot greater than 38 percent from the field on the evening. Baylor held a 51-36 rebounding advantage and outscored Oklahoma State in the paint, 28-18.
