Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera led the way with 19 points as the Georgetown Hoyas downed the DePaul Blue Demons, 68-63, in a Big East Conference tilt at the Verizon Center.
For the Hoyas (18-8, 10-5 Big East), who won their third straight contest, Joshua Smith posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, Isaac Copeland finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, and Jabril Trawick chipped in with 10 points.
Forrest Robinson paced the Blue Demons (12-16, 6-9) with 17 points, while Jamee Crockett finished with 13 points and Billy Garrett dished out seven assists, as DePaul lost its third game in a row.
The Hoyas led at halftime, 30-27. They shot 46.4 percent from the field in the half, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. The Blue Demons made just 39.3 percent of their field goal tries in the opening period, but did knock down 5- of-14 from 3-point range and closed the half on an 8-2 run to keep the score close at the break.
After intermission, the Hoyas made 42.9 percent of their field goal tries, which included missing all five of their shots from beyond the arc. The Blue Demons struggled from the field overall, making just 38.5 percent of their field goal attempts, though that did include 4-of-10 from 3-point range. The Hoyas were able to hold on down the stretch, shooting 4-of-6 from the free- throw line in the final 25 seconds to secure the victory.
The Hoyas dominated the play down low, outscoring the Blue Demons in the paint, 42-22. They also held the advantage in rebounding, 43-30, in the win.
