Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Shaq Thomas netted 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting as the Cincinnati Bearcats downed the Houston Cougars, 63-53, in an American Athletic Conference bout at Hofheinz Pavilion.
Kevin Johnson came off the bench to score 12 points for Cincinnati (18-9, 9-5 AAC), while Gary Clark tallied a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds. The Bearcats ended a three-game losing streak with the victory.
Danrad Knowles scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds to pace Houston (9-17, 1-13), which has dropped five straight decisions. Jherrod Stiggers and Devonta Pollard each contributed 13 points in the loss.
Houston connected on a mere 33.3 percent of its shots in the first half, but still was able to take a 28-25 lead into the intermission. Cincinnati made 36.4 percent of its shots in the frame, which included missing all five of the team's 3-point attempts.
The Bearcats caught fire in the second half behind 50 percent shooting from the floor. The Cougars buried 45 percent of their tries in the period, but couldn't keep pace with the visitors.
Cincinnati held a 26-19 advantage in scoring in the paint, and owned a 20-9 edge in points off turnovers in the win.
