Bloomington, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Ferrell scored 16 points and handed out eight assists as the Indiana Hoosiers dismissed the Nicholls Colonels, 79-66, in non-conference action at Assembly Hall.
Also scoring in double figures for the Hoosiers (9-3) were Will Sheehey and Jeremy Hollowell with 14 points apiece as the team secured a third win in four games.
The Colonels (3-6) were led by Dantrell Thomas who tallied a game-high 24 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field, adding six rebounds and four steals in the setback. Sam McBeath came off the bench to offer up 10 points in 17 minutes of action.
Nicholls actually led by four points early in the meeting, but the team ended up shooting just 9-of-25 from the floor and missed all seven chances behind the 3-point line through the first 20 minutes. Indiana had issues shooting the ball as well, hitting on just 1-of-6 beyond the arc, but made up for it with 18-of-24 at the free-throw line, en route to a 37-22 advantage at the break.
The Hoosiers blew the game open with 62.5 percent accuracy from the field in the second half, producing a lead as great as 22 with under four minutes remaining before settling for the 13-point triumph.
Indiana outscored the visitors at the charity stripe by a 26-6 margin, a much- needed effort considering the hosts turned the ball over 20 times on the night.
