Baton Rouge, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Josh Richardson led the way with 20 points as the Tennessee Volunteers defeated the LSU Tigers, 78-63, in a SEC matchup at the Pete Maravich Center.
Armani Moore contributed 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Volunteers (15-14, 7-10 SEC), who snapped a five-game losing streak with the win. Robert Hubbs netted 12 points, while Kevin Punter scored 12 points.
Keith Hornsby paced LSU (21-9, 10-7) with 25 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor. Jarrell Martin added 16 points and Tim Quarterman supplied 10 points with seven assists. Jordan Mickey posted nine points and eight boards as the Tigers' three-game winning streak was concluded.
The contest went into halftime tied, 33-33, after LSU outscored the visitors, 10-0, at the free-throw line in the opening period. Tennessee outrebounded the Tigers, 22-15, and committed only two turnovers in the first stanza. Richardson poured in 14 of his points before the break.
Moore took over after the break as he knocked down 7-of-9 shots from the floor for 15 points. Punter also made an impact with 10 points on 3-of-3 efficiency from the field and three steals over the final 20 minutes of regulation. As a team, the Volunteers converted 69.2 percent of their field goal tries in the second half. LSU made good on only 4-of-13 tries from behind the 3-point line after the intermission.
