Huntington, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - Austin Loop scored 20 points as the Marshall Thundering Herd defeated the FIU Panthers, 87-69, in a Conference USA bout at the Cam Henderson Center.
Justin Edmonds added 19 points for the Thundering Herd (10-18, 6-9 C-USA) as the team snapped a two-game slide. Ryan Taylor contributed 13 points and six rebounds, while Aleksa Nikolic and Cheikh Sane both chipped in with 10 points.
As for the Panthers (13-15, 6-9), Adrian Diaz scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds before fouling out. Both Dennis Mavin and Daviyon Draper contributed 12 points as the squad bowed for the third time in four outings.
The Thundering Herd shot 51.9 percent from the field and the bench outscored the Panthers backups 11-3 in the first half, as the hosts took a 44-28 lead at the half. FIU shot 45.5 percent from the field but turned the ball over 10 times in the frame.
In the second half Marshall shot 48.0 percent from the field and connected on 5-of-13 shots from 3-point range, en route to the 18-point win. FIU shot 40.6 percent from the field and made just 1-of-9 shots from beyond the arc.
Marshall held the visitors to only 4-of-18 shooting on the perimeter, helping the Herd to overcome 15 turnovers on the night.
