Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Austin Hollins led the way with 18 points as the Minnesota Golden Gophers downed the Wofford Terriers, 79-57, in a non-league battle at Williams Arena.
For the Golden Gophers (5-0), Oto Osenieks added 14 points, Elliott Eliason posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and DeAndre Mathieu chipped in with 10 points and five assists.
Lee Skinner led the Terriers (1-3) with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Eric Garcia and Spencer Collins each finished with 10 points.
Minnesota dominated right from the start, outscoring Wofford 22-2 in the first eight minutes of the half, as the it took a commanding lead at halftime, 50-24. The Golden Gophers shot a blistering 70.8 percent from the field in the first half, including 6-of-11 from 3-point distance. They held the Terriers to just 29.2 percent shooting and 2-of-10 from beyond the arc.
The Golden Gophers pushed their lead to as many as 29 in the second half, as they rolled to the easy victory.
Minnesota converted 13 Wofford turnovers into 13 points, while committing just eight turnovers of its own. The Golden Gophers dominated down low, outscoring the Terriers in the paint, 38-24.
