Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Terran Petteway scored 27 points to lead the Nebraska Cornhuskers over The Citadel Bulldogs, 77-62, in a non-conference tilt at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
For the Cornhuskers (8-3), Shavon Shields added 17 points and Leslee Smith posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Ashton Moore led the Bulldogs (4-9) with 21 points, while Matt Van Scyoc and Brian White each finished with 11.
The Citadel shot very well to open the game, knocking down 50 percent of its field goal tries, including 4-of-11 from beyond the arc. Nebraska shot 41.7 percent and an identical 4-of-11 from 3-point distance, as the teams entered halftime tied at 32-32.
After intermission, the Cornhuskers had the hot hand, connecting on 62.5 percent of their field goal tries. The Bulldogs struggled from the floor, making only 35.7 percent of their shots in the second half and just 2-of-10 from 3-point range. Leading by just one, 57-56, with under nine minutes to play, Nebraska ran off nine-straight points to take control of the contest, holding The Citadel scoreless for nearly five minutes during that span, as the Cornhuskers held on for the home victory.
Nebraska owned The Citadel under the basket, outscoring the Bulldogs 36-16 in the paint. The Cornhuskers also had the scoring advantage at the free-throw line, 22-10.
