Albuquerque, NM (SportsNetwork.com) - Aqeel Quinn turned in a 20-point effort and hit 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range to lead the San Diego State Aztecs past the New Mexico Lobos, 63-46, in a Mountain West Conference bout at WisePies Arena.
Malik Pope came off the bench to contribute 16 points for San Diego State (21-6, 11-3 MWC), while Skylar Spencer pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked four shots in the win. The Aztecs have been victorious in their last three outings.
Hugh Greenwood netted 12 points and grabbed five rebounds to pace New Mexico (14-12, 6-8), while Sam Logwood chipped in 10 points in the defeat. The Lobos have dropped five consecutive contests.
San Diego State hit on 39.3 percent of its shots in the first half, making 4- of-8 from 3-point range, to take a 31-18 lead into the intermission. New Mexico only connected on 23.1 percent of its attempts from the floor in the frame.
The Aztecs boosted their accuracy to 56.5 percent shooting in the second half, while the Lobos could only improve to 37.9 percent from the field. New Mexico only lost ground in the period to the visitors.
San Diego State had a hefty advantage in bench scoring, 27-12, over New Mexico, and outscored the Lobos from beyond the arc, 21-9, in the win.
