Chapel Hill, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Leslie McDonald led six Tar Heels in double-figures with 19 points as North Carolina completed a 105-72 rout of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Atlantic Coast Conference action at the Dean E. Smith Center.
Kennedy Meeks added 15 points in 15 minutes for the Tar Heels (20-7, 10-4 ACC) as they notched their ninth win in a row. Brice Johnson scored 14 points and Marcus Paige had 13 points. J.P. Tokoto and James Michael McAdoo chipped in 11 points each.
Coron Williams led Wake Forest (14-13, 4-10) with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Tyler Cavanaugh contributed 15 points, while Devin Thomas tallied 14 points and five rebounds.
The contest remained close in the opening stages, but UNC went on a 21-5 run to go in front by 19 points by the 5:44 mark of the first half and took a 52-33 lead into the intermission. The Demon Deacons connected on 46.9 percent of their field goal attempts before the break while the hosts hit on 53.3 percent of their shots from the floor including a 4-of-5 clip from behind the 3-point line.
The Tar Heels heated up to sink 61.3 percent of their field goal tries and knocked down 7-of-10 attempts from beyond the arc in the second stanza. Wake Forest could not narrow the gap despite making good on 52.2 percent of its shots from the floor over the final 20 minutes of the contest.
UNC assisted 24 of its 35 makes from the floor and outscored the Demon Deacons, 24-12, at the charity stripe.
