Sioux Falls, SD (SportsNetwork.com) - Lawrence Alexander scored 15 points, hitting a couple of key free throws down the stretch, as the North Dakota State Bison slipped by the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, 60-56, in the semifinals of the Summit League Tournament at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the second-seeded Bison (22-9) were Carlin Dupree and AJ Jacobson with 13 and 11 points, respectively, the former also pulling down seven rebounds in the triumph.
The Bison will now play for the tournament title and a bid to the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday night against top-seeded South Dakota State.
Third-seeded Oral Roberts (18-14) was led by Obi Emegano with a game-high 25 points, thanks to his 11-of-13 shooting at the free-throw line and not so much a 7-of-24 performance from the field. Bobby Word chipped in with 10 points, but he converted just 4-of-12 from the floor.
The Golden Eagles led by as many as five points in the contest, but the team shot only 40.0 percent from the field in the first half, compared to 53.6 percent accuracy for NDSU. Despite hitting just 2-of-7 from 3-point range in the period, the Bison led by eight at the break, 34-26.
Late in the second half the teams were knotted at 56-56, with a layup by Jacobson moving the Bison ahead by two with 1:19 remaining. ORU has several chances to tie or even take the lead, but a 3-pointer by Word from the left corner was blocked by Alexander, who shortly thereafter gave the Bison some breathing room with a pair of free throws.
