Princeton, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - T.J. Bray finished with 18 points and 10 assists to lead the Princeton Tigers past the George Mason Patriots, 71-66, in non-conference play at Jadwin Gym.
For the Tigers (4-1), Ben Hazel finished with 14 points, Hans Brase scored 12 and Denton Koon chipped in with 10 points.
Sherrod Wright led all scorers with 27 points for the Patriots (4-2), while Byron Allen added 11 points. Wright, who shot 10-of-16 from the floor, also pulled down eight rebounds and made four steals for the visitors.
Princeton was red-hot from the field to start the game, connecting on 64 percent of its shot attempts, as the Tigers took a 40-23 lead at halftime. George Mason hit on 45 percent of its shots from the floor in the half, but only 1-of-6 beyond the arc.
After intermission the Tigers continued to shoot well, making 56.3 percent of their field goal attempts. The Patriots mounted a comeback bid by knocking down 64 percent of their shots in the second half.
Trailing by as many as 17 after the break, the Patriots gradually cut the Tigers lead and were able to tie the game at 66-66 with just 1:21 to play in regulation. The Tigers retook the lead on a Brase layup with just over a minute to play and then shut the Patriots down in the final minute to hold on for the victory.
Princeton got a lot of production from its bench, with its reserves scoring 32 points to just 12 from the George Mason bench. The Tigers had a slight advantage in the paint, outscoring the Patriots 36-32.
