Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Hans Brase tied his season high in points with 15 to lead the Princeton Tigers over the Rice Owls, 70-56, for their first road victory of the season at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Brase shot 6-of-16 from the field, including three 3-pointers. Princeton (3-1) also received a strong contribution from Ben Hazel, who recorded 11 points and seven rebounds of his own. Spencer Weiz and T.J. Bray each chipped in eight points. Bray made his season debut going 3-of-6 from the field, including 2- of-5 from 3-point range.
Sean Obi, Austin Ramljak and Max Guercy paced Rice (2-3) with nine points apiece. Obi pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, while Marcus Jackson added seven points to go along with his seven rebounds.
Princeton was trailing 23-21 before going on a 10-0 run to take a 31-23 lead with 4:18 remaining in the first half. The Tigers took a 36-25 lead into halftime break. The Owls failed to keep pace as they shot just 36 percent from the floor over the opening 20 minutes of action.
Princeton's advantage never fell below double digits in the second half as the Owls continued to struggled from the field shooting 40.7 percent. The Tigers scored 19 points off of 13 Rice turnovers in the game.
Princeton's last win in Texas, prior to Saturday, came on Dec. 27, 2004, a 59-51 victory over Tulane in a UTEP-hosted tournament.
