Toledo, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Julius Brown registered a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 assists as the Toledo Rockets streaked to an 86-71 win over the Central Michigan Chippewas in Mid-American Conference action at Savage Arena.
One of six players to score in double figures for the Rockets (13-2, 1-1 MAC), Brown shot 3-of-5 behind the 3-point line as the team snapped a two-game slide. J.D. Weatherspoon produced a double-double of his own with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Rian Pearson tallied 14 points before fouling out. Nathan Boothe contributed 13 points, Jordan Lauf 12 and Justin Drummond 11 points and six assists for the hosts as well.
Chris Fowler emerged as the game's high scorer with 21 points, adding eight rebounds and three assists for the Chippewas (7-7, 0-2), followed by Braylon Rayson and John Simons with 15 and 10 points, respectively, as the team fell for the fourth time in five games.
Shooting only 1-of-10 behind the 3-point line in the first half, CMU fell behind by eight points at the break, 35-27. The Rockets made good on 4-of-9 on the perimeter in the period, as well as 50.0 percent from the floor overall.
In the second half the hosts erupted for a staggering 65.2 percent from the field and 17-of-20 at the free-throw line in order to cruise to the 15-point victory.
