Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Riley LaChance led four Commodores in double-figures with 15 points as Vanderbilt defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 66-56, in an SEC matchup at Memorial Gym.
James Siakam contributed 12 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for Vanderbilt (18-12, 8-9 SEC) as it picked up its fourth win in a row. Wade Baldwin and Damian Jones supplied 11 points apiece, with the latter also accounting for seven of Vanderbilt's 16 assists.
Craig Sword paced the Bulldogs (12-18, 5-12) with 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor. Gavin Ware netted 12 points for MSU, which will try to end its five-game losing streak in its regular season finale versus Missouri on Saturday.
MSU took a 36-32 lead into halftime after it sank 6-of-8 attempts from 3-point range and assisted eight of its 12 makes from the field in the first stanza. The Commodores made good on 57.1 percent of their shots from the floor, but committed 10 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes of the contest.
Vanderbilt outrebounded the Bulldogs, 17-11, and converted 53.8 percent of its field goal attempts after the break. MSU was limited to a 6-of-18 clip from the floor in the second half.
The Commodores outscored MSU, 30-22, in the paint and finished with a 27-19 advantage in total rebounds. Vanderbilt will close out its regular season slate on Saturday against Ole Miss in Oxford.
