Blacksburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Malik Muller's 3-pointer late in the game helped Virginia Tech to a 65-63 win over Georgia Tech on Monday.
Muller had 17 points, Adam Smith added 15 and Shane Henry had 10 for the Hokies (10-14, 2-9 ACC), who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Charles Mitchell scored 17 points with eight rebounds while Marcus Georges- Hunt gave 11 points and five boards for the Yellow Jackets (11-13, 2-10), who have lost three of their last four.
The Yellow Jackets held a five-point lead after Georges-Hunt put in a pair of free throws for a 62-57 lead with 1:39 to play. Jalen Hudson then followed that with a layup and hit two free throws after a turnover to make it a one- point game.
Mitchell then hit 1-of-2 from the line, and Muller buried a deep ball for a 64-63 lead with less than half a minute to play.
Georges-Hunt missed a jumper at the other end as the Hokies hung on for the victory.
Virginia Tech scored 14 of the first 16 points, but a couple of strong runs helped Georgia Tech take a 31-26 lead into the break.
