Laramie, WY (SportsNetwork.com) - Larry Nance Jr. registered a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Wyoming Cowboys captured a 59-48 win over the Colorado State Rams in Mountain West Conference play at Arena- Auditorium in the latest installment of the Border War.
Nance Jr., who shot 2-of-3 behind the 3-point line, also blocked four shots and made three steals as the Cowboys (19-4, 8-2 MWC) won for the fourth time in five games. Derek Cooke Jr. also recorded a double-double for the hosts with 12 points and a team-best 11 rebounds, while Riley Grabau tacked on 10 points.
The Rams (19-4, 6-4) were paced by JJ Avila who logged 18 points and a game- high 12 boards, followed by Stanton Kidd with 15 points and six rebounds as the team lost for the second time in three outings.
Wyoming scored the first points of the night and never looked back, with five of the team's first nine field goals of the contest coming from 3-point range. The team limited CSU to only 1-of-13 shooting beyond the arc through the first 20 minutes of action, leading to a 26-15 score at the break.
In the second half the Rams continued to have their issues on the perimeter (2-of-12) and also struggled at the free-throw line (5-of-11), allowing the Pokes to claim the double-digit win.
In addition to shooting only 12.0 percent behind the 3-point line, Colorado State also made just 9-of-17 at the charity stripe.
